Yeah for Scottie! We're so excited about his latest development! He's had us so worried. We finally had the local company that handles children with disabilities come out and assess him. The irony - he took his first steps literally the day or so before they came! They brought out a physical therapist and person who is our "case worker" for all intensive purposes. The physical therapist assessed him and said that fortunately because he's finally stepping that he wouldn't qualify for their program because of his feet. She did notice though that he has an extreme pro-nation of his foot and suggested the name of a place to go and get him orthotics. She said his feet don't quite look normal when he steps. She said that hopefully these orthotics would help set him on the path to walking well with just that light support. She also offered to come back and re-assess him in a couple months so we could see how he does. This "case worker" also asked about Scott's communication skills and we discussed those also. Once we got into discussing those as well, it made me realize how far behind those are too. So, she asked a bunch of questions and basically told me that the average 24 month old's vocabulary should consist of about 50 words. Scott's consists of 5. She also helped me realize that he hasn't been pointing to things and trying to say their names like most kids his age do. Like my friend Marie said, it's funny how much you take for granted with kids who progress normally. I didn't really have to (for lack of a better phrase) "go out of the way" to help the other two learn basic communication skills or other various motor skills. So, anyway, they left me with a list of homework for Scott and they'll be sending in a speech pathologist to observe him (probably the week after Christmas). This makes me happy - I knew something wasn't right but no one believed me until now. You know, there's something to be said about "Mom knows." It's true. So, all in all, we're so proud of our Scott! He's becoming a big boy! We love you baby! Picture coming soon!

Look Who's Walking........Finally!

Hey Kari,
I found your blog through Cara's. Happy 10 year anniversary!! I'm so glad he is walking now!!! My niece turns 2 in March, and right now she will only walk on her knees, her mom and her pediatrician aren't worried, but I am, I hope everything is ok.
