A Long Week Comes to a Close

Last week was so busy! After the crazy birthday celebrating was over, we had my sister Kenna's family over for dinner, and just to hang out. They had a family reunion with Brad's side of the family, so they didn't get to stick around to party hard at Gavin's little get-together. So, we made up for it!

Then there was the 4th of July! We spent our 4th over at Kenna's house with my parents and my grandmother, "Gee." (Anyone who knows our family, knows Gee.) Kenna had some friends in town visiting at her house, so we decided it'd work out better to be over there. Kenna and a few of her neighbors all went in on one of those inflatable water slides, and she had it at her house to set it up for our kids to use. That, of course was a hit - it was like another birthday party all over again! Then we did fireworks in front of the house (only legal ones....of course). We didn't make it home until close to 11:00, which is indicative of a fun night! Its funny how the kids' energy level peaks just before we get ready to go and once we enter the car, they end up in a comatose state - whether or not they end up asleep. Scott held up great though - I wasn't sure how he'd handle fireworks, but he found them amusing. The "Picolo Pete's" got him a little worked up - his whole body would stiffen and he'd shudder (poor baby). It was a fun night to end a fun week! And honestly, it seems like last week just set off a series of events that will probably not die down for a few more weeks. I looked at the calendar and realized we have like - 5 or 6 weeks left of summer vacation! I've found this summer to go by the fastest. I think having the kids in the city reading program has occupied us a little more than usual - just having somewhere to be twice a week at 9 am does it. Then, this week we started swim lessons at 11 every day for the next two weeks. It's stressed me out a bit.

Here's a random funny - Gavin was talking about his leg bones and I told him the name of his bone he was pointing to was his femur. He smiles and says, "I got big femurs mom!" It might not be funny to anyone else reading this, but there's a certain way he says things that just makes me laugh - where his eyes get really big and he deepens his voice as low as it can go (much like you might envision someone immitating a giant's voice).
